Living up to his purpose as a whip, Rep. Anthony Weiner has unleashed his political wrath on the wrong people. Just as jockeys are not supposed to use their riding crops on anything but horses, Weiner is not supposed to ride anything but dissenting Democrats in Congress (excuse the image). Since he has no legitimate legal claim against Goldline though, a private corporation practicing its right to free enterprise, or against Fox News, another private corporation practicing its right to free press, Weiner has decided to try and bully both like a child who is certain the world is "not fair."
His statement on the matter speaks volumes about either his ignorance of business, or his hostility to free enterprise. “Goldline is...a company that uses conservative rhetoric, high pressure sales tactics and tall tales about the future of gold to sell overpriced coins that can be bought somewhere else for cheaper.” In other words, Mr. Weiner thinks that advertising and profit-making is somehow immoral or even illegal. Goldline brings in 300 million a year because it has a targeted advertising campaign, appealing to Conservatives who are concerned about this country's economic future due to the Obama administration's unholy obsession with printing money. Every businessman knows--and most politicians don't know--that as the value of paper money decreases due to inflation of quantity, specie with intrinsic value (like gold) increases in value proportionally.
And that is all Glenn Beck has been saying. Sure, he's a paid sponsor of Goldline's. The only reason he and so many other conservatives took the job though is the same reason so many conservatives buy the service; they believe in it. Throw this in the pot with political activists like Kagan taking money from Islamo-Fascist nations, or the Democratic party taking 100 Million$ from Unions this year along with almost 70% of all large corporate campaign donations (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, etc), and you begin to realize that action speaks louder than words.
Of course, Mr. Weiner can't take any legal action against Goldline because nothing illegitimate is being done. He instead resorts to the more common form of Democratic whipping: baseless accusation. There have been entire movements made on this ground to censor Conservative pundits. Since censoring free speech is still illegal, Democrats are now trying to undermine the funding for free political speech which almost inevitably harbors "crazy conservatives" opposed to Democratic financial plans. Now, i'm not going to tell you that Weiner is doing this because he's fundamentally opposed to the basis of Capitalism and free speech. I'm not even going to tell you that Weiner is bent on ruining this country financially, though that is what his opposition to capitalism is resulting in. But would you believe me if I said that the reason Democrats are wasting so much political capital on this completely inane campaign against Goldline and Fox News is because they are terrified about November?
The recent Democratic National Convention featured just about everything powerful Democrats could say to assure the public they probably wouldn't lose too bad in November. What else can they honestly say about the millions of Tea Partiers besides for calling them racist and elitist? How else can they explain the rising unemployment, and terrible mismanagement of the Gulf Coast Oil spill short of blaming it all on Bush? What else could people buying massive amounts of gold mean but a blatant mistrust of Government currency control? I'm not a paid sponsor, but if this makes Weiner so unhappy, I feel almost obligated to buy some gold coins.
